We lost the final on penalties (5-6) to Vietnam...big deal!!.I'm proud of our boys!!..The whole tournament we score 18 goals and conceded none...we are just unlucky in the final...I went to the final on Sunday... although we lost I know that our boys give their all...kudos to the Vietnamese...they play high quality football in that final...I always rate the Vietnamese team highly because of their performance in the 2007 Asian Cup which they went until the quaters...
The problem is that FAM invited so many below par team like Nepal,Myanmar and Bangladesh.. I think the FAM wanted the stadium to be filled with PATI's...Maybe FAM invited Afghanistan on a humanitarian basis ( I can live with that)... Although we won 4-0 against nepal and myanmar..there's nothing to shout about...it's expected...the true test is Vietnam and we were unlucky...
I think that our game is too one-dimensional...we rely too much on our flanks...we need to mix it up a bit...the Vietnamese show us that the short-passing game is best suited for south-east Asians... our players seldom move off the ball...and if someone made a terrific run no one pick him up... all of our moves is created from midfield...when our playmaker was marked he couldn't set the game.. the thing that baffle me is that from what i see the Vietnamese did not have a playmaker...their game is short-passing two touch football...and their movements was superb...I think we should study the way vietnam plays...if we can implement it I think we can be more successful..
What we lack is a natural born playmaker or a midfield general...the last one was Yap Wai Loon back in 1995..after that all of our playmakers are not up to par...bacause of that i think we should play a short-passing two touch game...but not too defensive...I think we have a good striker in Safee Sali...Khyril Muhymeen is a natural winger...for the first time in 10 years we have two solid goalkeepers in Helmi Eliza and Syed Adney...what we need is too play according to our strenghts... for me coach sathia is doing a good job so far..not great but we are improving playing and ranking wise...
Some people wanted a change in the head coach position of our national football team... I think that will be a step backward...people who knows their football know that the ultimate test for this malaysian team is the AFF Suzuki Cup (used to be called Tiger Cup) in December...after that we can better assess our TIGERS...
